Missions

What is Sam XA Missions?

We don’t think missions is a department in a church but is a modern term used to describe something that is ancient, God’s heart for the entire world. Even in Genesis 12, God tell Abraham that his descendants will be a blessing to all nations. Later the prophet Isaiah talks about the sacrifice of the Son of God is too small a thing for only Israel, but will be salvation to all the earth (Isaiah 49:6).  We believe Jesus himself gives us a charge to participate in His plan of redemption (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15).  Our simple participation is not to indulge in some other human’s happiness overseas or for some young adults to have an adventure. Our response is to the charge of Jesus, to participate in the purpose of God’s heart to redeem all peoples, who he has a right to.

This is part of the testimony of how the Lord has given us the dignity to participate in His heart for the nations.

Over 1000 students involved with Sam XA missions since 1996 have traveled to over 27 countries, and have raised over $2.5 million for missions.

Some Testimonies

Steve Kramer Testimony:

“My first encounter with Sam Houston State Chi Alpha was 10 years ago. It has turned out to be a relationship that has not only been one of the treasures of my life but our friends at SHSU Chi Alpha have also left an indelible mark on the mission field here (The Netherlands).  Their contagious desire to serve Jesus whole-heartedly and be devoted to His mission around the world is unparalleled in my experience.”

Taylor Simmons Testimony:

A month in the Philippines completely reshaped my character for the better. I was introduced to a completely different culture that took me to another side of the world. I met students that wanted to learn about our methods of discipleship and how we reach our campus, so that they could do the same with theirs. They asked to be taught about SG’s (small groups). I felt so challenged during this time and God gave me a real urgency to step up for these students. We introduced the students to Discipleship by Design and we taught on various topics including: The Master’s Method, Fellowship, and The Qualities of a Small Group Leader. I had found a topic that the Lord was pushing me to talk about and I had to create a class about it. It would be about the Confrontation and Restoration of Relationships. Many students were interested in this subject and it created a full classroom. The Lord’s presence was definitely with me and I learned so much about the godly ways we can handle confrontation and restore our relationships with our brothers and sisters. I came face to face with spiritual warfare for the first time. I had seen these kinds of things before, but never have I had to handle it myself. I felt very scared at one point, but I felt encouraged from God in how to discern these wicked things. It was as if God was holding my hand and walking with me during this event. This trip was stretching on all levels for our team. I felt I expressed every emotion that I have at least once. What I can take away from the Philippines is that it prepared me to come back to Huntsville and lead a SG of my own.

Rob Craig Testimony:

The Lord taught me so much about Himself and me on the mission trip I went on to Arizona. He took so many things I had learned about His character and let me experience them. I got to experience His comfort in ways I could never have imagined, He broke my heart and gave me His heart for His children, and He showed me what it really means to be at the end of myself and have Him be strong when I am weak. The Lord gives us the honor and dignity to serve Him even though He doesn’t need us to. The Lord will bless your decision to go out on a mission trip and serve His people in the world.
